FUNDING NATIONAL PARKS IN TIMES OF ECONOMIC CRISIS.
By admin | September 18, 2011
When the economy falls on hard times, economic cutbacks can hit areas such as education, public assistance programs and funding for national parks. This can be a blow to conservation efforts to protect our land, wildlife and natural resources.
Funding national parks in times of economic crisis falls to the public and various organizations that work to support conservation efforts. These organizations are pro-active in securing funding for the support of the parks, many of which partner directly with the National Park Service. They give grants, donate items and support programming through their fundraising efforts.
They also support the parks through lobbying efforts in Congress to push for legislation that protects our natural resources. This includes protecting the parks from cutbacks, drilling for oil and misuse of the land that is protected. This is vital to keep these treasured areas free of pollution and to protect habitats that are vital to wildlife. Organizations are able to do this through membership dues from the public, who show their support for the national parks and other natural resources by joining. Environmental organizations are an important part of supporting the national parks in tough times of economic crisis and government funding support cuts.
